SELF PUBLISHING

There’s a process to transforming a project — memoir, novel, cookbook, manual, collection of poems, pictures, essays, etc. —  from notes on a screen into a printed book: writing, editing, scanning, laying out the project in book form, designing the cover, choosing a printer, and getting it printed to offer for sale or to gift as a family keepsake. I can help you through any or all of these stages.

NICE WORDS … from authors and others

  • Thank you for all the hard work you invested in my book. I am grateful to you for helping me create this legacy for my grandchildren. — Roy Barth

  • Great Golf Collections of the World, by Dick McDonough and Peter Georgiady, simply caught my eye sitting there so solemnly amongst all the gadgets and gizmos that will supposedly transform me immediately into a plus- handicapper. Perhaps it was the mosaic of photographs on its cover calling to me in a subliminal fashion to stop and say hello? Old balls and clubs, smiles, Bobby Jones and a colorful sketch of a pretty girl finishing her swing caught my eye. - Andy Reistetter, Andy’s Golf and Travel Diary

  • To my incredible editor and book designer: I cannot adequately express my appreciation for your incredible insight into the essence of the Henry River story and your enthusiasm for helping to make the telling of it a reality. — Betty Bullock

  • I have thoroughly enjoyed our collaboration on this endeavor, and am incredibly impressed with the combination of your designerly, technical, and business acumen. Time to start thinking about NFTU Volume Two! — David Seltzer

  • The proof arrived this afternoon, going over it now. IT’S FANTASTIC. Better than imagined. It is a REAL book. I can’t thank you enough for all the great and talented work! — Skip Gardner

  • I could not be happier with the look, the paper quality and thickness, the sharpness of the photos, etc. So let me thank you again for every detail to which you were tuned in. The assistance and guidance you provided was invaluable in every respect. — Jerry Litvin

  • With much appreciation and admiration — Stuart and Ellie Fine

  • To the “IT Girl.” You made this book possible in such a professional and beautiful way. Thank you. — Bunny Montag

  • You have touched my life in a way that has enabled me to pass on to my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as to all who read my story, the real meaning of life and a hope for their future in this world and eternally. Betty Bullock

  • I am so grateful for your many talents, your patience, and your invaluable help. — Judy Zalesne

  • Pat and I agree that it's perfect! Thanks so much. — Bruce Wallace

FAQs

  • Very little! Spend the time writing, not formatting. Include chapter breaks, page numbers, one readable font, and no extra spaces between paragraphs.

  • All books for sale need a barcode. Many printers will help with this but you can buy one yourself. If a book is not for sale, it does not need a barcode.

  • There are standard sizes for different genres of books. Novels and memoirs are typically 6”x9” or 5.5”x8.5” where coffee table books are 8”x10” or 8.5”x11”. There are no rules for what you choose, but unless you must have a special size, stick with a standard.

  • ONE! Please, just one. Putting two spaces at the end of a sentence is antiquated typing. It come from the days when typewriters needed our help to make it easy on the reader.

PRESENTATION

In 2021, I hosted a seminar for writers to discuss the steps involved in getting their manuscripts out of their screens and into print: text files, images, interior formatting, cover design, print options, etc. I’ve included a few of the slides from that presentation.
