If you know anything about Twitter, you know that tweets have a 140 character limit. (If you don’t even know that, read on anyway; you might still appreciate this information).

Thus, Twitter users rely on popular acronyms to express themselves; why waste characters on three words when three letters will do?

And why confine these acronyms to just Twitter? They make email, texting, and facebook (which don’t have character limits) more efficient, but also more confusing. You’d better know a few acronyms, just in case …

LOL: Laughing out loud

ICYMI: In case you missed it

SMH: Shaking my head (usually in disgust or disbelief)

B/C: Because

BTW: By the way

IMHO: In my humble opinion

ROTFL: Rolling on the floor laughing

GMAB: Give me a break

JK: Just kidding

I hope this list is helpful. You may never type one of these acronyms but your grandkids might. For them, it’s NBD (no big deal).

Powerful Suggestion

If you were affected by Hurricaine Matthew last week, or by any storm in the recent past, you know how essential your smart phone was: staying in touch, getting directions and traffic updates, taking “before” and “after” pictures, using the flashlight, receiving emergency notifications, calling tree removal companies, and checking sports scores (they are always essential).

And I’m sure you were justifiably concerned about the battery life of your phone: no battery, no phone.

Many of you, I hope, used your car charger to charge your phone’s battery. Good thinking!

Another gadget you may wish to have is a portable battery charger. When your phone’s battery runs down, plug the portable charger into your phone and use/charge your phone anywhere. Re-charge the charger in your car or when you get to a working outlet.

The one I use is the lipstick-sized, easily-portable charger from Anker.* Worked great for me when I really depended on it.

Just one “powerful” suggestion.

*Please note that I am not a spokesperson for this company nor do I receive any compensation from them for recommending their products. I just like my portable charger!
